ABOUT THE VINEYARD
First planted in 2020, the vineyard spans just over 16 acres of white and red Vitis vinifera on sandy loam soils along Maryland’s Eastern Shore. The site is young but already showing character and distinction: the 2024 harvest yielded 5.42 tons, while the 2025 harvest nearly doubled in volume, with 10.95 tons picked this Fall. We are pleased to share the vineyard’s first releases this weekend—Proprietor’s Red, Chardonnay, and Rosé.

MEET THE WINEMAKER
Helen Keplinger is a highly respected Napa Valley winemaker admired for her soulful, site-specific Rhône-style wines. After studying enology at University of California Davis, she honed her craft at several iconic Napa estates and international wineries before launching Keplinger Wines in 2006. Her work is defined by expressive craftsmanship, precision, and a deep sense of place—qualities she now brings to Siège Ordonné on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Helen has been involved from the ground up, helping to establish the vineyard, guide planting decisions, and shape the estate’s winemaking philosophy as it evolves and expresses its coastal terroir.
ORIGIN OF THE NAME
Located along the scenic banks of Skipton Creek, just off the Wye River, the vineyard is known to occasionally host a rare sight: gatherings of great blue herons. Typically solitary birds, they are sometimes seen here in graceful groups—known, poetically, as a “siege.” From this comes the name Siège Ordonné—or “orderly siege”—a nod both to the herons’ unexpected congregation and to the precise, disciplined rows of vines that shape the vineyard.
